Growing up my parents would have the odd dinner party. Friends would come rand sit around in the sitting room chatting before dinner. My sister and I would be used as waiters. Taking the drinks into them. Then packed off to bed!
More often then not the drink would be a Gin and Tonic. Served over ice with a slice of lemon. As a child used to milk, water and fruit juice this was the height of sophistication. I dreamed of days I’d have dinner parties of my own and serve G&T’s to my guests.
Fast forward some 30 plus years and I’ve not reached that level of sophistication. My favoured tipple would be a bottle of lager. As for the dinner parties, I don’t think I’ve thrown one!
It may be about to change. The other day a box arrived from the lovely people at Fentimans. There were bottles of botanically brewed soft drinks and some of their pre mixed Gin and Tonics.
Fentimans Botanically Brewed Soft Drinks
Sadly they arrived during the Easter Break so like wasps around a picnic the kids were there picking out their drinks. Needless to say the Curiosity Cola was first choice, swiftly followed by the Victorian Lemonade. The youngest went straight for the Mandarin and Seville Orange Jigger. She loved it.
The few sips I managed to get of them were amazing! Full of flavour and very refreshing. Nothing like mass produced soft drinks at all! Thankfully the kids weren’t keen on the Traditional Ginger Beer so I got to enjoy them myself. It really is a taste sensation. You can tell that they are botanically brewed.
Fentimans Pre-Mixed Alcoholic Drinks
Last night to celebrate surviving the half term the Mrs and I sat down and tasted the Bloom Gin and Fentimans Tonic. It was delicious. Crisp, refreshing and easy on the palette. We then moved onto the Bloom Gin and Rose Lemonade. I don’t care that it is pink in colour. I’d happily sit in the garden on a lazy summers day sipping one of these, whilst watching the children play. There might have been a bit of a discussion over who had more!
I’ve started making plans for a few BBQ’s during the Summer, I might even throw a dinner party! Now who do I speak to about a bit of sun this year?
