Homemade Taco Fries

The other half and the big teen are taco fries addicts. They’d live on them given the chance. At a fiver a pop though they aren’t cheap. So I made my own.

450g mince beef or lamb

1 onion finely chopped

1 red pepper chopped

1 green pepper chopped

1 tsp garlic powder

1 to 2 tsp chilli powder (depending on preference)

3 tbsp sweet chilli sauce

1 tbsp tomato purée

200 ml water

25 ml ketchup

25 ml mayonnaise

Heat a frying pan with a dash of a olive oil in it. Sauté the onions and peppers until soft.

Add the mince and fry until brown.

Then stir in the garlic and chili powders ensuring the meat is fully coated.

Add the water and turn the heat down. Simmer until most of the liquid has reduced.

Mix in the tomato puree and sweet chili sauce.

In a bowl combine the mayo and ketchup.

Cook your chips by your preferred method. I’ve tried oven chips and they just don’t taste the same to me!

To Serve

Put the chips in a bowl. Spoon over some of the ketchup mix, and stir to coat the chips.

Top with the taco mince and cover with cheese.

Pop under the grill to melt the cheese.

The taco mince is so good that the teen ate the whole lot in Torilla wraps with cheese.

  1. I should NOT have read this before I ate my lunch, now I want to eat that but all I have is a boring sandwich 😀 Looks yummy and I agree about the oven chips, the best are homemade imho. #lgrtstumble

  2. #thesatsesh ummm you had me at ‘homemade taco fries’ 🙂 Do you serve them with a salad? Love the idea of the fries instead, genius – glad you joined us as I’m feeling inspired.

    1. Teen not too keen on salad, but I love them with a leafy green salad, chopped tomatoes and some avocado drizzled in a French oil dressing.
I hope next weeks post lives up to this one 😀
